  Abstract

Emission of fine dusts and nitrogen oxides (NOx) causes increasingly serious environmental pollution problems during the industrial combustion of solid fuels. This study was designed to develop an integrated filtration material for both fine dust removal and denitration applications. Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) needle-punching fibrous felts (NPFFs) were employed as the main materials to get rid of the fine dusts in the high-temperature flue gas. We further loaded manganese oxides (MnO2) onto PPS NPFFs as the ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) catalysts to reduce NOx existed in the high-temperature flue gas. An in-situ deposition process was utilized to load MnO2 onto the PPS NPFFs. And a plasma pretreatment method was firstly employed to activate the PPS NPFFs before the in-situ deposition process to help improve the catalyst load rate. This notably increased the denitration activity in comparison with those without plasma pretreatment. We also found that all the PPS/MnO2 NPFFs exhibited significantly enhanced dust-removal properties compared with pure PPS NPFFs. Overall, the novel PPS/MnO2 NPFFs with stable structure, great handling convenience, excellent dust-removal property as well as high denitration performance, were designed and developed in this study, which showed great application potential in the high temperature fuel gas purification field.
