  Abstract

An ideal biomedical material should possess several characteristics like good cytocompatibility, appropriate mechanical properties, and high biocidal and hemostatic effi ciency. To achieve the goal, in this study, a kind of antibacterial blend fi lm (XG/CEDMH-Cl&CS) was prepared by N-halamine-modifi ed-xanthan gum (XG/CEDMH-Cl) and chitosan (CS). This fi lm presented good antibacterial performance and no zone of inhibition, thus indicating that this blend fi lm belonged to non-dissolving bactericidal materials. The blood clotting index (BCI) value and the cytotoxicity toward NIH-3T3 fi broblast cells were also studied, and the results displayed that XG/CEDMH-Cl&CS fi lm was satisfactory. In addition, the appropriate water vapor transmission rate, mechanical property and swelling property demonstrated that this fi lm can be served as a wound dressing material and might have great prospects in the fi eld of biomedical materials.
