  Abstract

Nonwovens provide specifi c functions such as absorbency, air permeability, softness, and fi ltration, making them very promising for health-care protection. However, environmental-friendly, green, and functional products are still needed to meet the fast development of health care. In this paper, microcapsules containing wormwood extract were prepared, and the viscose spunlaced nonwovens were coated. With sodium alginate and calcium chloride as wall materials, wormwood extract as core materials, wormwood extract microcapsules were prepared by a sharp hole coagulation bath. We fi nd that when the mass fraction of wormwood extract was 5%, the yield was 66.17%, the coating rate was 98.15%, and the sustained-release time was up to 350 h. The results show that when the content of wormwood extract in the microcapsule was 3%, the microcapsule had the highest coverage rate, good yield, and long release time. At this time, the air permeability of the obtained viscose fi ber spunlaced nonwoven material was 1234.6 mm/s, and the thickness was 0.746 mm. The antibacterial eff ect against Staphylococcus aureus was excellent. This strategy can be used for the mass production of antibacterial nonwovens.
