  Abstract

In this study, isothermal crystallization behaviors and physical properties were analyzed to investigate the effect of β-nucleating agent on polypropylene (PP)/glass fiber (GF) composites. The isothermal crystallization behavior of the PP matrix was analyzed with the Avrami equation, and the crystal morphology was observed by polarized optical microscopy. Tensile and impact properties of the PP composites were measured and analyzed with the crystallization behaviors. The GF and β-nucleating agent promoted crystal nucleation and affected the growth of crystallites in the PP matrix. Finally, the decrease in crystal nucleus density and crystal size were found with the inclusion of β-nucleating agent, and their effects on the mechanical properties of the PP composites were discussed.
