  Abstract

Immobilization of photocatalysts on supported materials is the key to achieving the efficiency and stability for wastewater treatment. However, developing high dispersion photocatalysts with high stability and durability is still a great challenge in practical application. Hence, this work reports a facile synthesis for inorganic–organic compound semiconductor nanomaterials using natural cotton substrates and in situ mineralization of β-FeOOH nanorods. In this strategy, abundant hydroxyl groups on cotton fibers as an intermediate bridge anchor Fe3+ for mineralization of β-FeOOH nanorods, forming strong coordination complexes. This resultant fabric, labeled as Cot-FeOOH, has been shown that the mineralized β-FeOOH nanorods covered the cotton fabric perfectly. The Cot-FeOOH displayed efficient photocatalytic activity for antibiotics and dye under visible light irradiation in the presence of hydrogen peroxide ( H2O2). Moreover, the stability and durability of Cot-FeOOH were evaluated by multiple recycles and laundering durability tests, demonstrating the satisfactory performance of stability and durability. Our study offers a simple and easy strategy to decorate conventional cotton for versatile applications in environmental remediation.
