  Abstract

Due to the high demand for natural dyes, researchers have been driven to search for new modern techniques to extract natural dyes from plants, animals, and minerals. Today, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) technique has become an extremely popular method for extracting natural dyes from plants. In this work, dyes were extracted from Quercus Coccifera L. species using the domestic microwave oven. To develop this extraction technique, pH extraction, microwave power, and extraction duration parameters were studied. In each case, the total phenolic content, the total flavonoids content and total condensed tannins were evaluated. Subsequently, the colored extracts obtained were used for dyeing wool fabrics. The dyeing quality was evaluated by measuring the colorimetric coordinates (L*, a*, b*) and the colour strength (K/S).
