Investigation of the Properties of Vortex Spinning Polyester Yarn during Warp Knitting

  Abstract

To study the influence of warp knitting on the properties of vortex spinning polyester yarn (VSPY), three kinds of structures were knitted with VSPY compared with compact spinning cotton yarn (CSCY). The mechanical properties and appearance performance of the yarns before and after warp knitting and the yarn tension during warp knitting were tested. The results demonstrated that the yarn tension fluctuation and maximum tension of VSPY were smaller than that of CSCY, and with the increase of under lapping, the average yarn tension of yarns was reduced. After warp knitting, due to the wrapped fiber of VSPY being damaged, the mechanical properties of VSPY decreased. The breaking strength, elongation, and wear resistance of VSPY were 18.4%, 85.9%, and 30.4% higher than those of CSCY, respectively. With the increase of under lapping, the damage of breaking strength and elongation of VSPY decreased. The hairiness index (S3) of the original VSPY was 0.06/m, and the S3 of CSCY was about 62 times that of VSPY. After warp knitting, the S3 of VSPY was 0/m, and that of CSCY was 0.17/m. It is concluded that the VSPY is more suitable than the CSCY for warp knitting.
