Abstract
In this study, the chemical changes in the fiber surface according to the acid
treatment time of the metal fiber were analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy
(EDS) analysis and contact angle analysis. Morphological changes were observed using
scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with acid treatment time. We observed the wettability
and surface energy by measuring the contact angle to investigate the effect of the surface
properties of the metal fibers on the interfacial adhesion with the polymer resin. In addition,
we prepared single fiber composite material specimens and measured the interfacial
shear strength to investigate the potential of composite materials for wearable device
applications. Consequently, the contact surface with the resin was increased owing to the
increase in surface cracks and etching through the surface modification of the metal fiber,
and the interfacial shear strength with the polymer was improved by making the surface
hydrophilic according to the hydrophilic groups.
