Abstract
In order to develop high fastness fluorescence color on polyurethane fabrics
used for sports, three fluorescent dyes having alkyl substituents were investigated. The
quantum yield of the dyes was obtained the lowest value for Fluoro Yellow B (0.421) and
higher ones for Fluoro Yellow A (0.782) and C (0.830). However, with regard to the fluorescence
intensity on fabrics, Fluoro Yellow B showed stronger value than other two dyes.
Durability of the dyeing against five organic solvents was appeared in the order of hexane,
ethanol, benzene, acetone, and chloroform. Fastness to washing and rubbing was excellent
for the three dyes showing ratings 4-5. Fastness to dry heating which had been worried
about with regard to sublimation was good exhibiting ratings at least 4. Practically acceptable
result was achieved in terms of light fastness which was one of the biggest drawback
of fluorescence, showing ratings 3 for Fluoro Yellow B and 3-4 for Fluoro Yellow C except for
rating 1 for Fluoro Yellow A.
