Abstract

The Modified Generalized Feistel Network (MGFN) is a block cipher proposed in 2023 to align with Malaysia's national encryption policy and national cybersecurity policy. MGFN is a 64-bit block cipher designed to satisfy the lightweight requirements of the Internet of Things (IoT) environment and supports a key size of 128 bits. This paper analyzes the structure of the block cipher MGFN and performs linear cryptanalysis on it. This paper proposes, for the first time, a linear distinguisher for the full-round MGFN and develops a linear cryptanalysis method more efficient than exhaustive key search. The analysis results of this paper demonstrate that a linear cryptanaysis on the full-round block cipher MGFN is feasible.
